Basic Mechanics

HighLife features an in-depth simulation of reality, limited by the bounds of computer games. In HighLife, there are a few basic functions to control the behavior of your player; Stamina, Health, Hunger, and Thirst. These four statistics control things like how fast you can run or how coordinated your movement is.

Health

Good health is key to success, your health bar is a representation of your player's physical health and if you don't take care of it you'll notice it'll become harder to move around at a normal speed due to the pain. If a player finds themselves in need of a fix up it's best advised for them to take some painkillers for minor wounds or use bandages to fix up any really bad injuries.

If a player ever finds themselves in a situation where they've been shot or stabbed, bandages will come in handy to stop the bleeding from it. If these wounds aren't attended to; it can quickly incapacitate a player.

Stamina

Stamina and lung capacity are based upon a player's playtime, capped at 1000 hours. This means that a player with 2000 hours will receive no further capacity than that of a player with 1000 hours of playtime. This primarily affects the player's ability to sprint, cycle, and hold their breath underwater. The capacity is scaled meaning with each minute you play, up to 1000 hours in total.

Stamina is also affected by the player's maintenance of their hunger and thirst levels. If these bars are not maintained, your stamina and lung capacity will be greatly reduced, and your health will begin to decline over time.

When a player's stamina is depleted (flashing red) the player's ability to run is reduced to a jog, with jumping also being hindered, this will positively increase the chance for the player to fall over when jumping.

Your ability to run at higher speeds will also be affected if you are below a certain health threshold. If you are under this threshold, your player will inherit a limp run and therefore will result in a slower running pace until your health has been rectified.

Hunger and Thirst

Maintaining your hunger and thirst levels is important for keeping yourself in peak condition. If either bar becomes too low, your maximum health will be reduced, meaning you won't feel 100% until you replenish your needs.

Keeping these bars filled not only allows you to maintain full health but also ensures you have maximum stamina and lung capacity. Numerous types of food and drinks can be purchased from restaurants, convenience stores, malls, and other locations.

Different items replenish different amounts. For example, a Heartstopper Burger will restore more hunger than an apple, and a bottled water will hydrate you more than a soda.
