Fishing

To fish, you will need three things: a fishing license, a fishing rod, and bait. You can fish either from the shore or from a boat. Bait must be in your inventory to use the fishing rod, which is also accessed through the inventory menu.

Where to Get Supplies

• Fishing License: Must be purchased at either the Fishing Supplies store, located off Great Ocean Highway beside Chiliad Mountain, or the Hunting Supplies store, located in Paleto Bay on Procopio Promenade. The icons for each store are:

• Rod & Bait: Can be bought at either the Fishing Supplies store or any Mega Mall. The icon for Mega Mall is: 

  

Fishing Minigame

With your rod equipped, you'll periodically see a prompt like "Press [key] to reel in your catch", where the key changes each time. As long as you have bait and inventory space, you’ll have a chance to successfully reel in a fish. Sometimes, the fish may get away or steal your bait.

Cutting Fish into Bait

Some fish can be cut into bait through your inventory. This lets you turn part of your catch into more bait  useful when you're far from a shop or low on supplies. Not all fish types are eligible, so check your inventory options when interacting with a caught fish.

Note: A hunting knife is required in order to cut fish into bait. Purchase one at a hunting store, Mega Mall, or Ammunation.

Illegal Fishing

Certain species, like sharks, stingray, dolphins, and whales, are protected and illegal to catch. Selling them is only possible through a hidden buyer, which must be discovered through roleplay.

Fishing Hotspots

Fishing inside hotspots increases your chances of catching rare fish. You may also have the chance to fish up a fishing casket, which contains valuable loot with historical value.
